dmp reader~

Postby palulukon » Mon May 07, 2012 7:13 pm

Hey guys

I know it's time for a fresh install...but just curious. 4 crash dumps in last 2 weeks. This latest, moments ago, saved dmp file. Microsoft has windows debugging tools, things to install ya da. Since I'm clueless on all of this is there a reader that would give me best guesses? I'm leery to install a bunch of 'stuff' from microsoft.

Any advice most appreciated

I have not used it, and I know you would prefer something NOT from MS, especially since it's a 700MB ISO, but here's a link showing how to use and where to get the MS WinDBG tool - http://windows7themes.net/how-to-open-dmp-files-in-windows-7.html Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Cheers and Regards

Okay, I'll give it a go...downloading now. Web page you referenced did take some of the fuzz out of wth are they talking about

Question...if I burn to iso can I use it without installing? I'm sure I can figure it out just thought you might know since this all new territory.

Learning how to debug might be a 'good thing' just cause ;)

Just found another freeware Who Crashed (another great little app)

On Mon 5/7/2012 6:57:36 PM GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\050712-28158-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: ntfs.sys (Ntfs+0x1AAEF)
Bugcheck code: 0x19 (0x20, 0xFFFFFFFF857829E8, 0xFFFFFFFF85782AB0, 0x8190020)
Error: BAD_POOL_HEADER
file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\ntfs.sys
product: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System
company: Microsoft Corporation
description: NT File System Driver
Bug check description: This indicates that a pool header is corrupt.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem. This might be a case of memory corruption. More often memory corruption happens because of software errors in buggy drivers, not because of faulty RAM modules.
The crash took place in a standard Microsoft module. Your system configuration may be incorrect. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver on your system which cannot be identified at this time.

If anyone can comment, shed more light just so I understand in more depth what I'm looking at.

Or not...you can let me suffer in silence :)

Unfortunately, I won't be much help either. When I start seeing those I know it's time for a standard R&R (Remove and Reinstall) of the entire OS -- 99% of the time that should fix that for you. That way you eliminate the software (OS in this case) as being the culprit. If you get errors and crashes like that during the reinstall then it's usually an indication of some hardware failure -- memory, cpu, hard-drive, mobo, etc.
I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code.

Thanks Freezer~yeah I know. Just have million things going on plus tree trimmers in the area (elec lines) and power does random blackouts. I'm just trying to learn what I'm seeing bc learning something new is neat. Looks to be windows system error or buggy software. Since I don't install many apps, using either setupS or portables online windows is the likely suspect. I"ve looked at other's crash dumps and if it's hardware it shows different.

Thanks to both of you for your input. I was pleased to find the two apps that simplify things.

And please let us know if it is/was indeed SetupS or one of the ssApps/ppApps causing the problems -- to help us correct any issues we might be causing inadvertently. :)

Will do Freezer but can't see anyway SetupS is the issue. I've been running this 7 for year and 8 months. Until last 2 weeks only two dumps spaced far apart and after 7 had been running eons without reboot (I use the sleep feature). I've never had anything run so smooth and I'm a fanatic for minimal app installs these days. I just love setupS...LOVE IT! This last dump happened while doing a CCleaner.

I know it's time for fresh install and I get to give new setups a spin  Just when everything is working so well, spring in bloom all around, fresh install bumped to last of tuit list ya know? I'd rather be outside :D

It's been cool learning about dumps however and the little freewares that put it into a more relatable format.

I have played with some random source portables lately. Can a portable cause this? I thought since a portable doesn't install to the registry per se that it could not be the culprit ???

*hugs*
